The conquest of the West includes some of the most
dramatic episodes in the history of the United States. The successful
experiment of bonanza farming in the Red River Valley of Minnesota
in the latter part of the nineteenth century is an important facet
of this ever-moving frontier. This book reviews and describes the
giant bonanza farms of up to 100,000 acres with as many as 1,000
field employees, 40 cooks and housekeepers, and up to 800 horses
need to run these giant farms.
