Lakeville, Minn.— Windward Publishing, and imprint of Finney Company has recently released Melissa Stewart’s latest children’s book, A Daddy Longlegs Isn’t a Spider. Stewart is an award winning author of more than one hundred books for young readers. John Himmelman, the illustrator, has written and illustrated nearly 70 books.

Follow the daddy longlegs as she fends off predators, takes a wind-powered trip down a river, deals with the changing seasons, and finds a safe place to lay her eggs. This story will teach and delight everyone who has met the resourceful and often misunderstood daddy longlegs.

Melissa Stewart has also written articles for such publications as Ask, Click, Highlights for Children, Odyssey, Ranger Rick, Science World, and The Writer. She serves on the board of advisors for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and is a judge for the American Institute of Physics Children’s Science Writing Award. Melissa earned a B.S. in biology from Union College and an M.A. in science journalism from New York University. She lives in Acton, Massachusetts, with her husband, Gerard. John Himmelman graduated form the School of Visual Arts where he realized his interested in writing and illustrating children’s books. Many of the books Himmelman has written and illustrated are about the wild creatures encountered in North America. As a naturalist, he is involved in many conservation issues. He teaches his craft to adults and visits schools and libraries to talk to kids about writing as well.
